Photo of children at AIDS prevention event in DakarSCENARIOS FROM AFRICA is a community mobilisation, education and media project about HIV/AIDS carried out with and for young people.

Photo of Idrissa Ouedraogo behind cameraIt gives children and young adults an exciting opportunity to educate themselves and others about HIV/AIDS by inviting them to participate with internationally acclaimed directors in the production of a collection of short films.

So far, over 105,000 young people from 37 African countries have taken part in these contests. Over a thousand local and international partner organisations are involved in organising the contests and selecting the winning ideas.

They are distributed on a non-commercial basis across Africa and well beyond, for broadcast on national television stations and on international satellite networks.

SCENARIOS films have been broadcast on locally-based television stations in almost every country in sub-Saharan Africa (shaded on map right), including on 20 stations in Nigeria alone. The films are also collected in a DVD set and on compilation VHS cassettes for use by organisations and schools. They are available in a wide and growing range of African and European languages and are reaching tens of millions of people.

SCENARIOS FROM AFRICA is co-ordinated by GLOBAL DIALOGUES, a non-profit organisation (UK charity no. 1071484) dedicated to promoting excellence in communication about HIV/AIDS.

SCENARIOS FROM AFRICA started life in 1997 as SCENARIOS FROM THE SAHEL. The project drew inspiration from "3,000 Scenarios against a virus", a project carried out in France between 1992 and 1994 by CRIPS and its partners.
